Text Type Chart : Narrative

Setting
o Adjectives to describe where the story takes place

Characters
o Proper names and 1st and 3rd person pronouns
o Dialogue/Conversation to convey feelings and thoughts
o Vivid description from narrator
o Vivid description through the use of dialogue/direct speech
o Verbs to show action and adjectives to describe physical appearance

Events /Plot or Problem(s)/Solutions(s) or Ending
o Simple past tense for narration of events
o Simple present tense for dialogue
o Verbs of all kinds: action, linking, sensing, feeling and thinking
o Connectors for showing sequence of events
o Adverbs of time, manner, place, duration, frequency
o Adjectives to describe persons and objects
o Direct and indirect speech to add interest
