Use of Infinitives & Gerunds

Use of Infinitives 

There are some errors in the use of the to infinitive in the following passage. Underline these errors and write the correct form of the to infinitive in the column provided.

        Five times in two months – that is how often the helicopters from the naval warship, RSS Endurance, have to responding to distress calls from ships attacked by pirates.
       The ship has been deployed to the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia, to policing the pirate-infested waters there.  The pirates are lying low now because of the monsoon season but the crew is not taking any chances.  To prepared for the expected increase in pirate activity, the crew will continue to trains hard and focus on its mission.
   The RSS Endurance is part of an international flotilla that has been deployed to tackling the increasing piracy problem affecting many countries.  More countries are planning to joins the anti-piracy effort with Thailand and New Zealand being the latest to be included in this fight against the pirates.
     Meanwhile, ships are advised to maintenance a 24-hour visual and radar lookout and to steers clear of suspicious small vessels when in open sea.  Every effort will be made to helps ships in distress. 
   Though armed, the pirate attacks have not resulted in many fatalities. Usually, ships are hijacked but the crew members are freed after a ransom is paid.  It is worth noting that warships are only allowed to scares off pirates.  Once a ship is boarded by pirates, attempts cannot be made to storms the ship.  This is to ensure the safety of the hijacked crew. 

Use of Gerunds (Nouns ending with 'ing')

I sailed the seven seas, but my restless soul missed __________ (seeing, to see) my family back home.  I longed __________ (going, to go) back but feared the wrath of the captain and the crew.  Just last week, Shane got himself into trouble for __________ (suggested, suggesting) a change of course to the captain.  __________ (Looked, looking) furious, the captain threw him overboard daring him __________ (swimming, to swim) ashore.  Shane was never seen again.
